Dragon Tongue Bush Bean Seeds

 

D(caps)ragon Tongue beans are some of the easiest veggies to grow. The seeds are a beautiful, which makes them ideal for beginners and beloved by any veggie gardeners. They grow with little care, produce an abundance of pods and can add nitrogen to the garden soil, making them ideal plants for organic vegetable gardens. They are open-pollinated. This means you can allow the beans to mature on the vine and save some seeds to plant next year. Dragon Tongue beans had two initial points of appeal: their fantastic name, and their lovely golden-yellow color, and streaked with purple.

Dragon tongue bean can be planted from seed as soon as the soil is warm (day temperatures are around 60 degrees Fahrenheit), in full sunny spots in the garden and loose, well draining soil.

Dragon's Tongue' Wax is an old, dual-purpose French variety (Dragon Langerie) with gorgeous pods that are yellow streaked with purple. As snap beans, the pods turn all yellow after cooking, but they're delicious as shell beans too.

Dragon Langerie (or “Dragon Tongue”) is a Dutch heirloom snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) that tastes as beautiful as it looks. Plants produce prodigious yields of white, flattened pods that with purple streaks that are harvested young and eaten whole. The pods have a sweet succulence that make this the perfect bean for eating right off the plant, although we also chop and stir-fry them. If the pods are allowed to fully mature, they can also be used as a shelling bean. Plants have a bush-like habit and don’t require trellising.
