As tomatoes are one of the most popular crops to grow in the garden. To boost your yields, you might try companion planting next to your tomato plants. Luckily, there are so many suitable tomato plant companions.

Marigolds

Marigolds provide a natural pest deterrent to tomato plants. With their strong repulsive odor, marigolds are quite significant at keeping tomato worms away.

This aromatic plant can help repel root-knot nematodes, microscopic worms that live in the soil and can damage vegetable and fruit plants. 

The roots of marigold produce secretions that contain flavonoids, amines, amides, phenols and ketones that have insecticidal and nematicidal effects!

Basil

Growing basil and tomatoes together in your vegetable garden make sense, as they’re truly a perfect pairing. Basil is a favorable aromatic plant to grow near tomatoes and purportedly increases not only the vigor of the tomatoes, but their flavor as well.

Planting basil and tomatoes together helps to improve the harvest size by pushing away insects that would be devastating for your tomato crop. Tomato hornworms can destroy your harvest, aphids suck the juices from the leaves, and beetles eat at the roots. Basil and tomatoes can be harvested at the same time so that you can have a considerable yield together.

Borage

Borage a flowering herb with blue star-shaped blossoms, it's my favorite of pollinators in general. Not only does it improve the growth and flavor of tomatoes, as it protects them. Borage acts as a deterrent to tomato hornworms as well.

Borage is so popular with bees and other beneficial insects to the garden, which means it helps ensure tomato plants are well pollinated.
